Consciousness is awareness of sensation. It replicates continuously and is therefore the least illusory thing to us. The resolution and precision of what you think you're experiencing is a separate question that does not apply to consciousness as such.
2 key features of the ontology of consciousness: (1) basic lucidity, with illumines everything without illumining itself; we know it's there, but it can't be captured by thought or perception; basic lucidity doesn't come & go or evolve, nor is it created; it simply is (2) human experiential responsiveness; which is what most people think of as 'consciousness'; ie subjectivity, perceptions, thoughts, feelings & all the rest of it. Basic lucidity (1) illumines all this in all its variations & including our perceptions of experiential stuff (ie 2) which can evolve & come & go & experience variations in awareness etc.
Summary: human responsive awareness is not the same as basic lucidity, which presents us with the features of experience; including perceptions & ideas. (All this is not some kind of philosophical doctrine; one can confirm it by simply observing ordinary experience as it is presented to you.)
Hope this clarifies, but it probably won't; nothing confuses quite like 'consciousness'.
Brilliant!
